BIOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT

Elaboration of the collection plan: The Collection Plan is unique and specific to each zoological institution. It offers an overview of the status of the zoological collection and the role of each species within the collection. It is a fundamental tool to design strategies for the future of both the animal collection and the institution itself. The process of developing a collection plan should include an analysis of the current status of the zoological collection and clearly define the criteria for inclusion of the species in that plan. Such criteria should include aspects such as importance of conservation, animal welfare and educational value as well as the attractiveness to the public.
Management of the animal collection and the LSS: We elaborate management protocols for each tank and for the maintenance and cleaning of aquarium filtration systems.
Startup and bringing to maturity of new aquaria: Conditioning of the tanks; test and review of biological and chemical water parameters for a successful adaption of the aquatic species to the new installation.
Staff training: Training addressed to the department of aquatic life as well as to other departments of the institution. It includes basic subjects such as the biology and conservation of wild species and specific topics like optimisation of the maintenance of the LSS.
Conservation and reintroduction programs: Collaboration in the integration of the institution in conservation projects.
Education and research: We design educational and research policies and programmes, establishing different lines of work, seeking out collaborations, developing contents and proposing the resources to be used for these purposes.
